Currently, we are ramping up our efforts for our AJISS program, Canada’s largest in-service support program working in partnership with the Canadian Armed Forces, specifically the Royal Canadian Navy.

The AOPS (Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship) JSS (Joint Support Ship) In Service Support program will allow Thales to leverage its Canadian expertise in project management, systems engineering and integrated logistics support to lead the development of a new Canadian supply chain that will offer comprehensive in-service support for all systems and equipment of these fleets over their operational lifetime, ensuring they are mission-ready, on time, every time, from coast to coast to coast.

To support our development, we are seeking a Planning Manager to join our team in Ottawa on a full time basis. The Planning Manager is responsible for the overall management AJISS Program Master Schedule, generation and overall management and planning of the PAOP of ship maintenance services and the overall management of planning and scheduling of the SDAOP of ship maintenance activities.

Main Responsibilities

  • Cost and schedule including Project Plan, Risk management, Resource management, Quality management ensuring all relevant project documentation is complete and delivered in a timely manner;
  • In conjunction with the Performance Manager, monitoring AJISS Key Performance Indicator performance;
  • Day to day interface with Customers, project teams, Thales AJISS Managers and Sub-contractors;
  • Develop, establish and update in consultation with the AOPS and JSS Class Planners the Annual Work List (AWL) for both class of vessels;
  • Manager the planning execution of the AWL by allocating tasks to ship maintenance availabilities as appropriate IAW the planned maintenance requirements;
  • Reviewing project plan and schedule and ensure project is managed as planned and within schedule;
  • Liaising with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the contract are being effectively managed and contract obligations are met;
  • Monitoring changes to work scope and identify impact to the project price and schedule;
  • Controlling progress and implement appropriate reporting at the right levels to ensure the achievement of milestones according to plan; implement corrective actions where and when required;
  • Ensuring all services are conforming and delivered to schedule and implementing action to resolve non-conformances;
  • Preparing input, review the Project Dashboard for Program monthly reviews;
  • Construct formal risk identification and reporting program, ensuring risks are managed and mitigated;
  • Set the risk mitigation strategy with the project team;
  • Control action plans and risk review meetings.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in an engineering, software development or related technical discipline;
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a Planner role required;
  • Audit qualifications background;
  • Detailed knowledge of and experience with ISO9001 standard, quality management and measurement systems in a similar business;
  • Ability to implement the quality management strategy in line with the overall business requirements and ISO9001 standards;
  • Strategic influencing skills including the ability to promote continuous improvements at all levels and across all areas of the organization;
  • Strong leadership skills that inspire team confidence and respect while motivating team members in a creative and effective manner;
  • Diplomacy skills including the ability to withstand pressures and say 'no' to other managers when quality is insufficient or processes are not being adhered to;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to understand and critique requirements;
  • Excellent communications skills including the ability to prepare and present reports to a range of audiences; experience with Primavera;
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to promote cooperation at all levels.
