Position Title: Site Deployment Intern

Duration: 4 Months (May start)

Location: Ottawa - OLRT MSF (Maintenance Facility), Belfast Rd

Job Purpose:

Support Site Deployment test & Commissioning activities on the Metro Line Signalling Project under the guidance and supervision of more senior staff. Assists in performance of tests in accordance with established test plans and procedures. Prepares problem reports describing test failures and defects.

Key Job Functions:

  • Assists in the Development of field test plans at System level,
  • Assists in performance of field tests
  • Assists in scheduling/planning testing activities to meet project milestones
  • Assists in developing possession requests
  • Prepares test reports which record the pass, fail status of planned tests and identify problems reports generated during the tests
  • Acquires product knowledge through active participation in formal, and on the job training, as well as self-study
  • Prepares test reports upon completion of field test sessions
  • Prepares problem reports in the defect tracking system describing test failures and defects
  • Recognise anomalous system behaviour and document the behaviour into the problem tracking system
  • Maintain test tracking database at end of test sessions
  • Conduct initial review of test results through incorporating analysis of collected data with observed system responses
  • Communicate test observation and results in both oral and written media to other engineering staff, superiors and customers
  • Adhere to the company’s Processes and Work Instructions
  • Note that this position requires significant night shift and weekend work on top of regular day shift duties.

Basic Skill Level Requirements:

The successful candidate should be working towards an Electrical/Computer/Systems Engineering, or Engineering Physics degree, possess good written and oral communication skills, familiarity with project work environment.

  • Enrolled in a credited institution’s coop/internship program
  • Computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheet, and databases is essential.
  • Experience using application software such as problem tracking, requirement management and parsing software is a significant asset.
  • Experience in Excel Macro or Perl/C/C++ programming would be a significant asset
  • Demonstrated competence of English language skills (written and oral)
  • Understanding of System Engineering principles, life cycle models, and requirements analysis is considered an asset
