The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual for the Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks (CENGN’s) Engineering team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering Operations, the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will work with the intermediate and senior levels of technical engineers and leaders to plan, develop, and support the delivery and validation of CENGN’s virtualization environment, systems & networks. This environment will integrate various CENGN partner in-kind contributions into one cohesive system capable of accepting test and verification projects from CENGN’s membership. The candidate will support CENGN’s operations built around a modern automation framework and contribute to its continuous development. It is expected that a major part of the infrastructure built will be from direct contributions (h/w, s/w, services and engineering) from CENGN’s membership thus creating CENGN’s multi-vendor common test platform. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Due to the rapid evolution of the emerging network technologies for which CENGN is in the forefront; the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer plays an important role in defining and delivering the CENGN Testbed, which continuously evolves. The candidate will account for the following: 

  • Design, implement, and maintain network and security infrastructure for both underlay and overlay of CENGN cloud platform
  • Design, implement, and support system monitoring infrastructure
  • Create and implement automation for cloud platforms as well as monitoring and alerting purposes
  • Verify and resolve configuration and other non-software related issues
  • Supports the development of key components of CENGN’s automation framework
  • Lead architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment, security, and high availability in the cloud

 Key Competencies/Qualifications: 

  • Expertise in network design and operations of datacenter fabric using BGP
  • Expertise in network design and operations for IP, MPLS and Segment Routing networks
  • Expertise in network design and operations for Internet Edge connectivity using BGP multi-homing
  • Expertise in security best practices leveraging firewalls, IPS/IDS, encryption and incident response
  • Expertise in UNIX operating systems: RedHat, CentOS, Canonical Ubuntu, FreeBSD and other opensource distributions
  • Experience and desire to develop expertise in virtualization technology like Openstack (preferred), VMware
  • Experience and/or contribution to Open Source technologies: Docker, Kubernetes, FD.io, Ligato, VPP, OpenContrail, Contiv, Cilium and emerging projects
  • Experience with automation using well-known languages and frameworks such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on experience with public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Rackspace) would be considered an asset
  • Participate in and evaluate proof-of-concepts for network and security technologies to support CENGN cloud infrastructure
  • Highly motivated to gain experience in R&D engineering/DevOps environments
  • Sound judgment and ability in handling matters of a confidential and/or sensitive nature
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to changes 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Engineering or Computer Science. 

Languages: 

  • English oral, reading and writing
  • French oral, reading and writing would be considered an asset
