SurveyMonkey Apply is a SaaS product created and supported by SurveyMonkey. Our software streamlines the collection, review, award and post award processes from end to end. We help organizations manage applications for grants, scholarships, fellowships and other programs.

Apply is currently used by over 800 customers ranging from nonprofits, educational institutions, corporations and government departments, and corporations in 20+ countries around the world.

The Role

The Sales Engineer (SE) is responsible for presenting technical solutions for SurveyMonkey Apply and SurveyMonkey Enterprise. The SE has confidence in SurveyMonkey’s technology infrastructure, and is able to remove all technical objections in the sales cycle. This includes understanding the needs of prospective customers’ businesses, translating those needs into a demonstration of our product’s functional and technical capabilities, and working with the sales team to communicate differentiated messaging in proposals.

The SE combines proven technology skills with interpersonal and teamwork abilities. They possess strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and analytical and problem-solving capabilities. The SE can manage time-sensitive requests and meet deadlines. A positive, service-oriented personality is required.

A successful candidate will be able to generate new business and ensure growth of existing accounts by assisting with customer success as required. They will be able to assess the potential application of SurveyMonkey products or services and offers solutions that meet customer needs.

Additionally; they will be able to communicate customer feedback for future product developments internally and will be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the SaaS field.


  • Responsible for supporting sales activities, including:
    • Understand customer goals and challenges and establish our products as the best solution available
    • Manage all technical aspects of a complex sell, in conjunction with experienced sales personnel
    • Present our products’ technology infrastructure, security and roadmap
    • Be a technical resource for Account Executives: answer technical questions, make technical presentations, and manage customer trials through phone, email and on-site visits
    • Respond effectively to RFIs, RFPs, and prospects' technical and security questions
  • Help improve our product offering:
    • Identify/develop solution offerings and represent the firm in the marketplace
    • Establish personal rapport with current and potential customers and other persons in a position to influence requirements
    • Develop comprehensive product demonstrations
    • Communicate customer feedback into future product developments on SM Apply/FluidReview Uservoice
    • Conduct research to identify overall solutions for our customers
  • Help kickoff scoped solutions:
    • Determine client technical requirements and liaise between sales/business development and engineering
    • Evaluating and providing proof of concept for integrations with 3rd party platforms – SSO, API, Webhooks, Datasources
    • Coordinate the transition between pre-sales specifications and implementation engineering upon contract award

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years professional experience in a client-facing technical role.
  • Strong understanding of data security and privacy
  • Demonstrated experience developing web applications and/or systems integration
  • Strong grasp of the common web technology stacks
  • Experience implementing Single Sign On (SSO)
  • Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team to solve business and technical problems
  • Ability to articulate complex technical information to customers
  • Highly driven individual with an execution focus and a strong sense of urgency
  • Handle details accurately and in a timely manner
  • Previous experience in the security industry a plus
  • Some limited travel may be required
  • Ability to take on occasional late or early customer calls outside of Eastern Time
