Mitel is currently looking for a self-motivated and energetic Hardware Engineer II to join the design engineering team located at the Kanata facilities. In this position you will be accountable for ensuring that all Mitel products have the highest quality and cost-effective electronic designs. You will be an integral part of a fast paced R&D team in a growing company and you will be working closely with teams in Hardware design, Software development, Mechanical design, Industrial design, Test Engineering, Product Line Managers, and contract manufacturers/suppliers.

Key accountabilities of the Senior Hardware Engineer include;

  • The Hardware Engineer will design, test, and qualify high quality and cost effective electronic solutions for Mitel Products. This includes ( but is not limited to) the following:

  • Design of analog and digital electronics, schematic capture and PCB layout, timing analysis, thermal simulation, engineering analysis.

  • Work with both the electronics suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure the highest yield products can be produced and assembled with the least cost.

  • Ensure that all electronic solutions meet the necessary and applicable EMI/EMC and Safety and Regulatory requirements

  • Follow all documented Mitel ISO processes and procedures in the development of all electronic designs

  • Develop and document the implementation of hardware design test plans for full scale production, as this is a key part of the New Product Introduction process.

  • Participate in ongoing cost reduction activities and value added engineering analysis to provide the lowest cost products to our customers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.

  • 3-5 years of experience in hardware design engineering

  • 3-5 years of experience with both Analog and Digital electronics design.


Additional Qualifications:

  • Telephony: Experience with electret microphones, audio receivers, Pulse Code Modulation, CODECs, audio amplifiers, filters,

  • Digital Electronics: Microprocessors, SDRAM, EEPROM,

  • Industry standard Interfaces: I2C, SPI, Ethernet, USB

  • Electronic components: Familiar with design of Transistors, FETs, diodes, LEDs, opto-couplers,

  • Power Supply Design: Familiar with Boost/Buck DC- DC Converters, Linear and Low Drop-Out Regulators, Transformers, Power Over Ethernet

  • Liquid Crystal Displays: Familiar with the latest LCD technology and backlight, as well as manufacturer specification for these panels.

  • Electronic Design Automation Tools: Schematic Capture (Cadence Concept), Layout Tools ( Allegro), high speed digital analysis and transmission line simulation.

  • Radio Frequency Standards: Bluetooth, Wireless LAN IEEE 802.3, Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications

  • Lab equipment: Familiar with the use of Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Logic Analyzers and Network Analyzers

  • EMI/EMC and Regulatory Approvals: Experience in board level debugging of radiated and conducted emissions/susceptibility.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Highly energetic and a self-starter
