Canada’s Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks (CENGN), is a consortium of large multinational companies, academic institutions, and research leaders that work with small and medium Canadian companies to accelerate the commercialization of next generation communications solutions. The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual for the Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks (CENGN’s) Program and Product Management Team. Reporting to the VP, Program and Product Management, the candidate will serve as the point of contact and authority for their department ensuring optimal service to CENGN’s customer base, which includes CENGN Members, enterprises and service providers that consume CENGN services as well as Small Medium Enterprises whose products and services CENGN helps to commercialize.


Key Responsibilities: 

Due to the rapid evolution of the emerging network technologies for which CENGN is in the forefront, The Rural and Northern Broadband Specialist plays an important role in defining and delivering CENGN’s services, which will continue to evolve. The candidate will account for the following: 

  • Lead a small team to outline an Open Broadband Internet Architecture for both wired and wireless technologies
  • Evaluate options for business and technical broadband solutions applicable for Rural and Northern Ontario
  • Establish collaborative relationships at senior levels with relevant Ontario organizations engaged in similar endeavors
  • Define end to end solutions for Rural and Northern community leveraging technologies from CENGN members and Canadian Small Medium Enterprises
  • From the possible solutions defined, identify specific projects that can be proven in a testbed and/ or in the field and conduct the project


Key Competencies/Qualifications: 

  • Network Architect with experience and knowledge of end to end networks
  • Must have designed, operated and deployed some or all of the following
    • Internet Edge, Access and Core Networks
    • Cloud architecture and solution
    • Virtualized Network Functions in Mobility
  • Understanding of all broadband technologies – Wired (GE PON, DSL etc.) and Wireless technologies (Fixed Wireless, Satellite, Mobile/cellular etc.)
  • 5-10 years of experience working for or with an ISP or mobile carrier network
  • Experience working in a leadership role with an ability to create concrete strategy and plans from ambiguous goals
  • Excellent team development skills with previous experience building small-medium teams
  • Superior interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills
  • Team leader and overall team player



  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent



  • Experience in a team lead or supervisor function with ability to assign projects in a fast paced and challenging environment with rapidly changing priorities



  • English oral, reading and writing
  • French oral, reading and writing would be considered an asset
  • Competency in any other language is also an asset
