Position Title: Technical Writer Intern<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Duration: 4-8 Months (May start)
Under the direction & supervision of the User Documentation & Training Specialist, the Technical Writer will be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team that is focused on the development & delivery of in-service support solutions for Command, Control, Communications & Information Systems for various customers.
The Technical Writer will contribute to & support the development & successful delivery of system & equipment Operator & Maintainer Manuals & Technical Orders.
Key Job Functions:
The Technical Writer - Coop will be required to assist in the production & delivery of Canadian Forces Technical Orders, Naval Class Manuals & Special Purpose Manuals which includes, but is not limited to:
Minor revisions & basic research under the direction of the team lead, technical writer / senior technical writer, as applicable
Compile draft text & illustration, ensuring the product is technically accurate, logically presented, consistent with the appropriate specifications & all customer requirements have been addressed.
Proofreading & editing;
Editing for accidentals;
Organizing, Engineering data & drawings applicable to a document;
Cropping, inserting & formatting images & pictures;
General Formatting, including, but not limited to, the following: Modify various aspects of the text by applying the appropriate style (e.g., heading levels, body text, etc.);
Update the tables of content & other tables, as applicable;
Create & activate hyperlinks, if required;
Apply any other changes required by the client (e.g., highlighting certain references, replacing certain words).
Assist other technical writers in preparing their work packages for draft manuscript presentations
Basic Skill Level Requirements:
The successful candidate should be working towards a Technical Writing / Electrician degree, or equivalent.
Ability to communicate verbally & in writing, in a clear, concise & technically correct manner.
Written Communication – style of documentation are consistent & comply with established criterion & specifications
Presentation skills / experiences.
Experience with Canadian Forces Technical Orders & Canadian Coast Guard Technical Publications is an asset.
Experience in desktop publishing processes & graphics production software (I.e. Adobe Suites)
Familiar with basic communications & radar systems, crypto systems, strategic long range radio communications systems, SATCOM systems, microwave systems, PCs, area networks & telecommunications equipment is preferred.
