VistaCare Communications is a leading technology solutions provider for a wide range of businesses and organizations. We are currently seeking experienced and motivated Fibre Splicers/Cable Technicians to join our multi-dwelling unit (MDU) operations in Ottawa, Ontario for permanent, full-time positions. Fiber Splicing Technicians are involved in all facets of fiber splicing including cable preparation, termination, fusion-splicing, testing and troubleshooting.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare tight-buffered and loose tube fibre Optic cables for splicing operations.
  • Fusion Splice inside existing buildings and new construction MDU environments
  • Install splice boxes, patch panels and point of entry/access devices
  • OTDR & iOLM Testing, troubleshooting and repair
  • Maintain onsite safety documentation
  • Progress reporting
  • Follow safe work practices and procedures
  • Provide on-the-job training for new hires

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Proficient in fibre cable termination with connectors
  • Well versed in fusion splicing machine technique
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Self-disciplined, motivated and organized

Experience Required: 

  • 2+ years Fibre Optic splicing experience
  • Technical training considered an asset
  • Previous telecommunications experience and testing for improved experience
  • Experience using FO troubleshooting tools (i.e. OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.)
  • Experience with electrical or working around power

Additional Requirements: 

  • Valid driver’s license (preference given to Class 3 and above), reasonable driver abstract
  • Willingness to travel, work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check
