We are looking for a Working Level Engineer on the Test Automation Team. The Test Automation Team is responsible for the planning, development, integration, and support of test automation initiatives across all programs within our Air & Naval Systems division. Our mandate is to work with programs to create or develop their test automation capability and provide a center of excellence within the organization.

The Working Test Automation Engineer will carry out various test automation and software engineering activities, including needs analysis, tool evaluations, infrastructure development, prototyping, design, implementation, integration, training, and support of test automation solutions. The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative team environment, with peers within their team and from other projects. They will get the opportunity to experience a challenging and diverse variety of tasks through the entire software development life cycle, while providing leadership and mentoring teammates.

Typical Duties

The responsibilities and range of activities may vary, but in general will include:

  • Participate and play a leadership role in team planning exercises, using tools like Jira and Confluence to track backlogs and manage information
  • Work with different programs to determine test automation needs and develop proposals
  • Evaluate and prototype different test automation tools and make recommendations
  • Design, implement, integrate, and test solutions – maybe extending existing solutions for a new program, or maybe developing a new solution for a different kind of product or technology stack
  • Build and maintain infrastructure to support test automation activities (e.g. VM workspaces)
  • Document processes and best practices to support training initiatives
  • Presentations and demonstrations to team members and stakeholders from other teams
  • Work collaboratively with team members to resolve issues and progress tasks
  • Train and mentor team members in techniques, tools, and knowledge

Required Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ related experience in software development or test engineering / QA
  • Disciplined approach to software engineering, including experience with requirement analysis,software design, integration, and testing practices
  • Ability to analyze complex systems or issues, recommend options, and implement solutions
  • Enthusiastic contributor, willingness to learn new skills, and strong sense of ownership
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability and desire to take on a leadership role within the team
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Experience with automated testing and developing automated tests
  • Experience with test automation frameworks such as Robot Framework
  • Development in Linux environments and expertise with Linux CLI, including shell scripting
  • Development with scripting languages such as Python
  • Advocate for test automation and software quality


  • Experience working in the design, development, or testing of large scale military software systems
  • Experience developing with programming languages such as C#, Java, C++, ADA
  • Experience researching, learning, and deploying new tools
  • Experience working with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, Docker, ClearCase
  • Experience working with simulation tools


Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance. Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
