General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is currently looking for an Intermediate Human Resources Administrator for their Ottawa location. This role will primarily provide administrative support services for Learning & Development and Benefits Administration. The Human Resources Administrator will be specialized support for accurate maintenance and administration of the human resources PeopleSoft and our Learning Management Systems. At the intermediate level, the Human Resources Administrator is expected to have the ability to manage a variety of tasks, working independently in entry of data into PeopleSoft and other HR systems, assisting as back-up to both the Benefits Administrator and the Learning & Development Coordinator. The Human Resources Administrator will also be involved in HR-related projects as either a contributor or a lead for smaller projects.

Typical Duties

Benefits Administration:

  • Enter and maintain employee data in PeopleSoft and employment files.
  • Maintain and archive employment and benefits files with prescribed filing and retrieval process.
  • Act as information resource to HR staff and all employees.
  • Offer employee services such as access to employee files and confirmation of employment.
  • Works closely with payroll to ensure smooth transition of data.
  • Verify and prepare monthly reconciliation of Insurer billings.
  • Assist with other group benefits such as Auto and Home Insurance.
  • Verify information passed from PeopleSoft to Insurer system.

Training Administration:

  • Maintains and updates employee training records
  • Assist with coordination of training activities including management and maintenance of in-house training facilities and off-site logistics.
  • Assist with creation of reporting on training outcomes, budget and standard training metrics
  • Supports the mandatory compliance training process for employees and contractors
  • Supports the Training Needs Analysis process


  • Participate in cross functional HR activities, as required.
  • Perform related duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Recommend new or more efficient procedures.
  • Assigned special projects based on business needs

Required Skills & Experience

  • High degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Strong written communication, decision making and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated strength in change management – shows motivation and ability to inspire others to embrace change.
  • Familiarity with HR Databases.
  • Strong analytical and research abilities, organized and self-starting, the ability to
  • work independently.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Hands-on experience with MS Office applications, Learning Management Systems, and HRMS systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment related legislation.


  • High School Diploma with 1-2 years of experience working as an HR data administrator, preferably in a hi-tech environment
  • Experience working in a unionized environment would be considered an asset


Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
