General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada currently has opportunities available for co-op software engineer(s) to work in one of the following business areas:

Air and Naval Systems – furnishes a range of capabilities and services to Canada’s Naval and Air forces, and to international customers around the world. We design, build, and support mission critical systems currently in the air over the Middle East and in the Asia Pacific, deployed at sea, and entering service at satellite anchor stations and defence facilities here in Canada.

Our capabilities and services include:

  • Cutting edge underwater sensors
  • Anti-submarine warfare systems
  • Airborne mission management systems
  • Data transport and satellite communications services
  • In-service support to fielded systems

Typical Duties

The responsibilities and range of activities may vary, but in general will include:

  • Performing structural requirements analysis and maintenance
  • Performing data integrity analysis
  • Designing and developing requirements analysis tools
  • Designing and developing data integrity tools used for validation
  • Designing and developing database management tools
  • Investigating and responding to problem reports
  • Performing webpage (TWIKI) changes and maintenance
  • Supporting the software and hardware teams
  • General lab support

Required Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge and use of a configuration management tool would be an asset
  • Knowledge and use of a requirements management tool would be an asset
  • Knowledge and use of a problem reporting tool would be an asset
  • Experience with any of the following tools are highly desirable:
    • Rational ROSE, ClearCase and ClearQuest
    • DOORS
    • Microsoft Visio
    • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Some knowledge of DXL (database programming language)
  • Some scripting experience would be an asset
  • Some data analysis and metrics reporting would be an asset
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Enthusiastic contributor, willingness to learn new skills and takes on ownership of work
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision

Education

Currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent
