Job Description

Your Key Responsibilities Would Include:

As a senior member of our firmware team in Ottawa, you will develop firmware controls for optical line system products.  The embedded control firmware is used for control of high-reliability, fiber-optic products including line cards, optoelectronic modules and sub-system controllers.  Line card products include EDF amplifiers, Raman amplifiers, ROADMs, OPM, OCM, optical switches, OTDR, spectrum equalizers and the like.

In the firmware development role you will work on multiple tasks in a dynamic engineering environment: optical control firmware development, FW DVT and HW DVT test automation, FW DVT execution and manufacturing PCBA test automation.  You will contribute to control algorithm development and be responsible for FW design, then coding on DSP, MCU, FPGA and SOC platforms.  Responsibilities then include unit testing, HW integration, optical integration, SW integration and debug. 

Education & Experience Necessary For Success:

Experience Requirements
• At least 10 years of engineering experience in appropriate function
• At least 5 years of experience in a design and development function for optical line system products
• At least 5 years of experience in firmware or embedded software development with TI’s DSP,  Xilinx’s ZYNQ SOC or  similar microprocessors
• Prefer years of experience integrating various and adjacent disciplines including optical, HW (electronics) or test automation
• Prefer years of experience coding with components, containers and similar

Skill Requirements
• B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
• Good working knowledge of Real-Time Operating Systems and device drivers, such as TI’s BIOS, FreeRTOS,  VxWorks, Linux Kernel/U-boot/BSP/Device Drivers
• Excellent C/C++ programming skills
• Very good understanding of analog and digital hardware and commons used in serial communication protocols
• Hands-on lab test experience with JTAG debugger, Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer
• Familiar with version control tools and bug tracking systems
• Candidate must be a quick-learner and self-starter:, energetic, flexible and positive
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Able to work independently with little supervision
• Proficiency in English speaking and writing
