Would you like the challenge and excitement of managing an existing small professional services business in one of the prettiest towns in Ontario?   McIntosh Perry Surveying Inc. (MPSI) is growing, however the present Manager is retiring after a successful career at the helm.  MPSI is part of McIntosh Perry, one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies and an award-winner in the engineering field. Overall, we have more than 500 employees in the group of companies and MPSI (~20 staff) makes up a key supporting component to our other services.  We have a team of Ontario Land Surveyors and technical staff (field crews, drafters, GIS, admin) in our Perth and Ottawa offices. You will be the person to lead the company forward! This will involve maintaining and developing business, managing and mentoring staff and expanding our services into fields such as LiDAR.  What does that mean from a day to day perspective?   Duties and Responsibilities:   Overall management of the staff and finances of the company; Participating in the strategic development and pursuit of clients and projects and providing visible leadership with potential clients and existing clients; Providing leadership, and mentoring to the team to ensure they have what it takes to effectively carry out projects; Working with the Operations Manager to ensure proper project planning is in place for the scheduling, staffing and resourcing of teams in order to ensure the effective execution of projects; Oversight in the preparation of proposals, development of work plans, schedules, budgets, fees and negotiations; Monitoring progress on major projects to ensure timelines and targets are being met; With technical staff, monitoring industry standards and developments, assessing client needs and making concrete decisions on proposed solutions; Preparing and providing financial review of proposals; Liaising with other McIntosh Perry Managers throughout Ontario to ensure success for the company and our clients on multidisciplinary proposal/projects; and Working with the Senior Management Team of McIntosh Perry to grow the overall business.   Qualifications:   Well-suited candidates for the position will have a solid reputation for technical excellence, coaching and leading high performing teams along with excellent communications skills and sound business acumen. These technical abilities should enable them to be immediately credible with customers, partners and staff. Prior experience running a similar-sized business in the engineering space is considered essential.  Other skills you might bring to the table include:   Ability to have fun while running a successful business; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Proven track record of profitable business management and growth; Ability to work effectively as part of a team, with clients and other relevant stakeholders; Demonstrated leadership and people management skills including the ability to provide leadership to a variety of technical professionals; Demonstrated project management skills including the ability track schedules, manage timelines, budgets and resolve issues in a timely manner; Knowledge of engineering practice, processes, ethics and management; Some understanding of survey practices, standards and laws is an asset; and Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance.  Golf skills not essential, but you must be willing and able to work in a comfortable country building on a quiet road outside of the historic town of Perth in beautiful Lanark County.
