Status : Temporary Part-time (One Year Contract/10 hours per week) Position Overview: As a member of our New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineering Team, you will play a key role in launching capable new assays/chips/cartridges for use with our i-STAT analyzers, including our new i-STAT Alinity analyzer. The chip manufacturing process starts with a 6” silicon wafer upon which, at an external foundry, a SiO2 layer is thermally grown. A TiW adhesion layer, then a platinum layer, is sputtered to form a TiWPt bilayer and is further patterned to form electrodes which are the backbone of our biosensors. At APOC, we make over 300 solutions which we spin coat and pattern or microdispense over active regions of the biosensors. Processed wafers are mounted on frames and diced into chips, which are assembled into cartridges. These cartridges belong to one of four families of products used in conjunction with i-STAT analyzers for with-patient testing: Coagulation, Chemistry, Immuno (for detecting cardiac markers) and Blood Gas. There is a critical need to provide additional tools for the assessment of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). There are many manufacturing considerations for these processes, such as: Incoming material specifications and control; Solution formulation equipment and techniques; Measurement equipment, data collection and analysis; Solution management, including lifetime and storage conditions. As a Process Engineer in NPI Engineering, focusing on Bioreagents/Chemistry processes, your responsibilities will include: Participating in process development with the goal of launching capable new products. Conducting Design of Experiments to characterize new processes/products, determine critical-to-quality attributes and implement in-process measurements and specifications to ensure capable product performance. Performing new equipment and process validations aimed at improving quality, yield, increasing capacity, or reducing cost. Ensuring process and equipment changes are validated or verified according to current quality standards. Providing timely root cause analysis to resolve product and process problems. Collaborating effectively with R&D and Operations colleagues, maintaining excellent communication with partners and stakeholders. Implementing new equipment, processes and products into manufacturing and performing regular review of control charts and implementing required changes to keep processes in control. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science, preferably biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering or biomedical engineering. Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills; critical thinking skills; Ability to design experiments, analyze and interpret data, and document conclusions; Analytical skills, creativity and innovative approach to problem solving; Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members, and work independently; Willingness to work in labs, manufacturing areas, and office environments; Very strong investigational skills, drive to understand and solve problems; Propensity for continuous learning and experimentation.
