RESPONSIBILITES: Report directly to the Engineering Department Head and get involved in making strategic plans for the company's long-term development. Lead and manage a process engineering team to develop, design, and optimize processes driving efficiently and tangible improvements. The detailed duties include: Lead the engineering studies for project feasibility, process capability, process due diligence, and process audits. Set technical goals, assign the designing tasks to the team members. Supervise and mentor a process design group to perform engineering calculations, process studies, field investigation, detailed design, engineering documentation, equipment specification, code requirements, and checking for process design projects. Verify the work of team members and review process engineering documents, including P&ID's, general arrangements, equipment installation details, heat and mass balance, and other process calculations. Evaluate, recommend, and specify process equipment and operating procedures. Responsible for HAZOP, ensure the design is in compliance with all regulations to improve process safety, and reduce risks wherever possible. Lead the commissioning campaign of pilot-scale or full-scale Waste-to-Energy plants. Work with Project Manager, Plant Manager to perform operational troubleshooting and implement innovative solutions and action plans to correct operational issues and improve performance. Work with other engineering teams and the R&D Department and provide support to develop novel technologies that have potential to be commercialized. Perform other duties as required by the head of the Engineering Department. QUALIFICATION: Bachelor degree in Engineering or a related subject. A minimum of 15 years work experience in the process design, construction, operation, and maintenance. Experience in most of the following areas is highly desirable: Plasma generation system Waste-to-energy Petrochemical industry Hazardous waste management Advanced materials production Plant installation, commissioning, and testing Minimum 10 years' process management experience in the fields above. Proven capabilities of managing a process team and proven success in leading the team to conduct the designing work effectively. Registered as a Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) member, or eligible to register as a PEO member. Strong technical analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Knowledge of designing, specification, testing, monitoring, and analysis of process equipment including boilers, pumps, fans, heater exchangers, conveyors, separation/filtration equipment, piping, air pollution control equipment, etc. Knowledge of scaling up develop technologies to pilot-scale or commercial stage. Experience in performing engineering calculations for process systems design, working with and developing Process Flow Diagrams and P&ID's. Familiar with the industrial standards and regulations. Familiar with HAZOP for process safety management and risk assessment. Project management and estimating experience preferred. Knowledge of process simulation, computational fluid dynamic modeling, finite element analysis, design basis of reactors in high temperature processes preferred. Participate in process start-up and commissioning, and be responsible for starting up the project, tuning specified equipment or systems, and turning it over to operators. Support the operation management using statistical process control tools and methodologies to analyze operating procedures, process data trends, and equipment unit operation functions for process troubleshooting optimization. Up to 15% domestic and international travel. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering. Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in both process design and operational environment with a preference for experience in petrochemical or waste-to-energy industries. Able to execute assigned process tasks within a budget and on schedule. Self-motivated and a team player. Experience in process control and optimization is considered an asset. Excellent written and communication skills; fluent in written and spoken English.
